‘Game Of Thrones’ Wolf Dog Forms Amazing Bond With Rescue Mom

Rescuing Dakota

Kim Tisher, founder of Arctic Fox Daily Wildlife Rescue, received an urgent call from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. A wolf-dog named Dakota needed immediate rescue from a hoarding situation. Despite her limited experience with wolf-dogs, Kim agreed to take Dakota in temporarily.

When Dakota arrived, he was described as a large, angry animal. It took significant effort to get him into his enclosure. However, once inside, Dakota seemed to sense a newfound freedom and quickly formed a close bond with Kim.

Caring for Dakota

Kim faced the challenge of providing a suitable environment for Dakota. Within three months, she had an entire acre prepared for a wolf-dog enclosure. Dakota’s initial behavior was challenging; he was naughty and lacked manners. Kim dedicated herself to addressing these issues, gradually helping Dakota to adapt.

Over time, Dakota emerged as the leader of the pack. His analytical nature and desire to control relationships within the group became apparent. DNA testing revealed that Dakota was 55% gray wolf, with Alaskan Malamute, German Shepherd, and Belgian Sheepdog mixed in.

Kim’s Bond with Dakota

A special bond developed between Kim and Dakota. Kim described their ability to communicate without words, an extraordinary connection that deepened over time. She could lay down in Dakota’s enclosure, confident in his protective presence.

Dakota took the lead in checking on her and shielding her from other new wolf-dogs. This profound relationship with Dakota ignited Kim’s passion for wolf-dogs, revealing their unique capacity for non-verbal communication.

Challenges of Rescuing and Caring for Wolf-Dogs

Caring for Dakota and other animals in her sanctuary demanded immense dedication. Kim spent 4 to 8 hours daily working with her animals, leaving little time for vacations.

The presence of Dakota also significantly impacted the local canine dynamic. Kim’s parents, who lived nearby, observed how Dakota’s presence changed the behavior of neighborhood dogs and coyotes, causing them to start howling in response to the high-content wolf-dog.

Through her work, Kim not only gave Dakota a forever home but also found her calling, deepening her love and appreciation for wolf-dogs.
